ABOUT SHELFGENIE OF SEATTLE

ABOUT ALAN, Owner of ShelfGenie of Seattle and Director of Client Happiness

Hi, I’m Alan Regala, the owner of ShelfGenie of Seattle. For as long as I can remember, I’ve had a passion for problem-solving and helping others.

Before ShelfGenie, I worked as a mechanical engineer in the design and development of consumer products and medical devices. Somewhat prophetically, I was also involved in the design and nationwide distribution of unique organizing products for home and business.

The common theme of my engineering experience is something called “human-centered design.” To do a great job with design, you need to have empathy for the person you’re designing for; this ties the person to the product. You’re not just designing a product; you’re designing for someone real.

I think this is why it bothers me so much that most cabinets, shelving, and storage spaces in homes aren’t designed and built with you, the homeowner, in mind. All too often, builders make things look pretty, but their storage and organization solutions aren’t practical enough for everyday use. Even designers of custom cabinets and shelving can’t match the level of detail we offer for accessibility, organizational efficiency, and usable storage space.

The result is that you have to put up with awkward blind corners, hard-to-reach shelves, and oddly-shaped storage areas. It’s inconvenient, inefficient, and frustrating. And sometimes, downright dangerous.

Through the ShelfGenie business, I’ve found the perfect opportunity that blends my human-centered engineering background with building a vibrant service-dedicated team that is committed to bringing you the experience of joy, comfort, and peace of mind throughout your entire home.

On top of that, I get to meet lots of interesting clients who teach me things about new vacation spots, the latest kitchen gadgets and gizmos, and even the best kitty litter!

For me, it’s a gratifying experience when I get to explore the needs of our clients and bring them affordable “human-centered” solutions that are more practical and convenient than our clients think are possible.

Outside of ShelfGenie (which I don’t consider “work”!), I enjoy playing competitive tennis, soccer, and snowboarding.  I especially enjoy spending time and traveling with my wife and two wonderful daughters. Come to think of it, some of our most memorable vacation spots have come from client recommendations!

On behalf of the team at ShelfGenie of Seattle, we look forward to the opportunity to bring “human-centered design” into your everyday life at home.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT US
One of our delighted clients, Jeanne Anne from Kirkland, put everything into perspective when she wrote to us:

“I have a medium-large house with an apartment-size kitchen. What were the builders thinking? I struggled with finding storage space for everything. I bought duplicates of things I couldn’t find on my shelves. I found three packages of tapioca when I cleaned off my shelves. My husband likes rhubarb pie, and I never could find the tapioca I’d already bought to make the pies. I had to store my Cuisinart in the basement – no room in the kitchen. It was so unhandy I never used it.

ShelfGenie installed my new shelves last week, and now that I’ve got my kitchen back together I can find everything!! I have loads of storage space now an the Cuisinart’s stored in the kitchen. Maybe I’ll even use it! I’m so happy with my new shelving!

And I’d like to say something about the people at ShelfGenie. Everyone was polite and easy to deal with. Also, everyone kept their word about when they would show up, when the job would be done, etc. There were no unhappy surprises. Just what you want when you deal with companies.

Whether it’s your kitchen, pantry, bathroom or some other space that you’re looking forward to transforming, I have a good feeling that you’re going to enjoy the time you spend with your ShelfGenie designer during your design consultation!”

Another happy client, Suzanne from Bellevue, echoed what Jeanne said:

“ShelfGenie installed several slide-out shelves in our kitchen and bathroon. We are thrilled with the result. We recently moved from a large home to a much smaller condo and needed to make efficient use of all the spaces. ShelfGenie has doubled the usable shelf space in our kitchen and bathroom. The quality of the sliding shelves is exceptional. Alan Regala designed and planned these improvements and had great ideas. The installers were very professional and worked with a minimum disruption to her condo. We are very happy with the end result and proudly show off our new shelves to our guests.”
